Annotated Bibliography 3

MLA:
Messia, Hada, and Matthew Chance. "Italy’s Silvio Berlusconi Steps Down as Prime Minister." CNN World. N.p., 2011. Web. 18 Jan 2012. <http://articles.cnn.com/2011-11-12/world/world_europe_italy-government_1_people-of-freedom-party-bunga-bunga-parties-presidential-palace?_s=PM:EUROPE>.

This article, written by Messia and Chance briefly summarizes Berlusconi’s time in power and the reason’s behind his eventual resignation. He announced that he will no longer run for reelection and stepped down within hours of the announcement of the new austerity measures that are “aimed at restoring confidence in Italy’s economy.” These austerity measures include spending cuts and proposals to boost growth in the Italian economy. Berlusconi was able to hang on to his power in politics despite his many scandals and trials, and served three terms as prime minister. Eventually, he was forced to resign not because of these scandals but because of “failure to tackle Italy’s debt crisis,” and he also “failed to win a parliamentary majority on a budget vote that should have been routine.” CNN is an extremely credible source and Messia and Chance wrote about this subject in a very straightforward manner and without bias. The information in this article is very similar to the other articles that I read and this article was an extremely helpful summary of the true reason behind Berlusconi’s resignation.
