In this article, Winfield speaks to the reasons behind Berlusconi’s resignation. She writes that Berlusconi essentially caused the Italian debt that exits today due to the corruption surrounding his time in power and the many scandals that he had, leading his followers to stop supporting him. This crisis has become so large that it now threatens to tear apart the Eurozone and ruin the Euro. Mario Monti is the frontrunner to replace Berlusconi and people are extremely hopeful that he will be able to fix Italy’s economy despite the terrible situation it is in now. Monti must put through many austerity measures to fix the economy. Winfield writes for huffingtonpost which is a very credible source and she is a bit biased against Berlusconi, presenting him as a corrupt man who destroyed Italy, but at the same time that is nearly true. The other articles I have read mostly present Berlusconi in this light and although this article is a bit harsh, it is true that Berlusconi was the main reason behind the Italian economy’s state today.
